Helen Newstead- Headteacher, IKB Primary School

Helen Newstead is the Headteacher of Isambard Kingdom Brunel Primary School, having previously led two other Somerset primary schools within another trust for over five years.

Before entering education more than a decade ago, Helen built a successful career in the private sector, working in operational management, consultancy, and training delivery. This diverse professional background has shaped her strategic leadership approach and commitment to developing people and organisations. It also reaffirmed her passion for helping others realise their potential and inspired her move into education, where she has remained committed to making a positive difference in young people’s lives.

Helen is dedicated to improving outcomes for all children, particularly those who are most disadvantaged. She believes every child deserves the opportunity to succeed and is relentless about creating inclusive, nurturing environments where pupils, families, and staff feel valued, supported, and a strong sense of belonging.
